What we’ve funded
Summary of our past funding
Justice Together has a ten-year vision, and our approach is to fund in the long term across those ten years where income permits. We carried out an extensive consultation between August and September 2020 with the migration and legal advice sector to co-create and develop the strategy which guided our funding priorities.
We held 15 virtual roundtables and focus groups in the devolved nations and regions of England with 153 people attending in total. Of those, 46 people had lived experience of the immigration system, as well as 33 individual calls with key people working in the sector and beyond to explore needs and opportunities.
In 2021 we launched our first grants round as part of a plan to fund across each region and nation in the UK. From 2021 to 2024 we ran two grant rounds a year, covering different regions and national and local influencing grants. Grants were typically awarded for three years, with a plan that each grant would be renewed twice depending on our income and how well matched the work was to our strategy and grant criteria. Now, in 2025, nearly all our grants have now been renewed at least once. The budget per region for advice grants was between £500k – 600k for multiple partnership advice work. For local and national influencing these grants ranged from £100k – £300k.
In 2024, in light of the rapidly shifting context for migration in the UK, we refreshed our strategy based on context, what we had learnt and our goal of a more anti-racist sector.
In 2025 the grants committee decided to review our whole grant portfolio simultaneously in light of our refreshed strategy, existing budget and the fact that many grant partners are approaching their third and final grant.
At present we have no plans to run open grant rounds.
